Honolulu-based restaurateur Kevin Aoki of Aoki Group has announced the opening of RM. 38 on the second floor of 1938 Indochine. Offered to Aoki Group Rewards members, the intimate lounge sits behind a rustic barn door that once opened, reveals a seductive room inspired by the French Indochina era. The décor is a mix of vintage motorcycle gear and red silk curtains inspired by Kevin’s travels throughout Southeast Asia. Scarlet-colored walls display original propaganda art by famous street artist Shepard Fairey and the Aoki family archive photos.
RM. 38 is also the home to one of Hawaii’s most extensive and private Whiskey collections curated over the years by Kevin himself. RM. 38 is the perfect venue for private events such as birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, a friend’s night out, or a family dinner. Bookings are available nightly between 4:00 and 10:00 p.m. Each booking will feature cuisine from 1938 Indochine’s Southeast Asian “street food” style menu, with an option to create a unique prix fixe menu if guests prefer and a dedicated Butler to service the event. The price is $1,500 for a minimum of two guests, and up to 15 guests. For a limited time, anyone can book an event at RM. 38. To book a reservation, fill out the form on the 1938 Indochine website, including the guest’s name, number, date and time of the desired event, and type of occasion.
About Aoki Group
Founded by third-generation restaurateur Kevin Aoki in 2006, Aoki Group creates award-winning restaurant concepts. In Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, these include Doraku Sushi (Waikiki), Doraku Sushi (Kakaʻako), Bluetree Café (Kapiolani), Bluetree Café (Kakaʻako), 1938 Indochine, and Qing Mu Noodle (Kakaʻako). On the continent, two locations include AOKI Teppanyaki & Izakaya and Doraku Sushi in Miami, Florida, and in Las Vegas, Nevada, Kuru Kuru Pa. In addition, AOKI Teppanyaki (Waikiki) and Herringbone (Waikiki) are establishments also managed by Aoki Group. Thriving in the restaurant business is in Kevin’s DNA. He follows in the footsteps of his Father, Hiraoki “Rocky” Aoki, the founder of world-famous Benihana, and his grandfather, Yunosuke Aoki. The latter was the first to open a restaurant in Japan. Kevin has the same mission as his father and Grandfather before him: “To make good friends through great food.”
